We just completed our latest northern Idaho Brewery Tour where we checked out  all the new Idaho Breweries that opened in the last four years. We visited seven Coeur d' Alene Breweries and two Breweries in Salmon.

120 KANIKSU BREWING

Kaniksu Brewing is located at the HopStop Home Brew shop in Post Falls Idaho.  It is similar to Craft Brewers of Boise,  but with a much larger selection of their own beer.

112 CHALICE BREWING

Located in downtown Coeur D' Alene, this pico brewery has a very limited selection of their own beer but supplements their with many locally brewed beers.

SECOND QUARTER 2023 IDAHO BREWERY UPDATES

Idaho lost another brewery in the second quarter of 2023.  As of June 30, 2023, Idaho currently had 92 active breweries.

HIGHLANDER BEER IN SALMON

Highlander Beer is a brewery in Missoula, Montana that has opened an Idaho location in Salmon.  They  are located at 605 Main Street and they currently are  Pub featuring pizza and other pub food.  They plan to brew on-site with a 10 BBL system by the end of the year.

FIRST QUARTER 2023 IDAHO BREWERY UPDATES

Idaho entered the year with 92 breweries.  Hardware Brewing and Mad Bomber Brewing both closed in 2022.  Two new Idaho breweries opened in the first quarter of 2023 and one brewery closed April 1st, 2023.  As of April 2nd, 2023, Idaho has 93 active breweries.

Tom Applegate's brewing lasted nearly 9 years and was a very popular hangout in the North Coeur d'Alene area.

Hardware Brewing is infamous for defying the COVID closing order.

New Owners run a bar/restaurant, but do not brew their own beer.

NEW IDAHO BREWERIES THAT OPENED IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2023.

129 BROWN BEARD BREWING CO.

 

Brown Beard Brewing became the 129th Idaho brewery when they opened in Garden City on March 10th, 2023.

Bryce Tuttle is the owner/operator and head brewer of Brown Beard Brewing Co.

And yes, his beard is brown.  Homebrewing since 2016, Bryce has developed many

of his own recipes and he is anxious for you to try them. His new brewery is located

between Clairvoyant Brewing and Powderhaus Brewing at the end of Chinden Blvd,

in Garden City. 

Brown Beard Brewing is a Boise Beer Buddies Hub.

128 VANTAGE POINT BREWING

Vantage Point Brewing became the 128th Idaho Brewery when they opened in Coeur d' Alene in Late February 2023.

From their website:

"Vantage Point Brewing is owned and operated by Kevan McCrummen. Kevan attended the Siebel Institute’s “International Diploma” program in Chicago, IL, and in partnership with Doemen’s Academy in Munich, Germany. The Siebel Institute is the oldest brewing school in the nation (est. 1872) and is one of the highest-regarded brewing schools in the United States.

Vantage Point Brewing Company is a craft brewery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, specializing in German-style beers. Sockeye Brewing Opened a Second Boise Location

From their Facebook page:

" Introducing Sockeye Alehouse , a new way to experience Idaho's most awarded craft brewery.

Nestled at the base of the Boise Foothill off Hill Road, Sockeye Alehouse is a major part in the next chapter in our 26-year history, and will be a can't miss destination in the Treasure Valley and beyond. When complete, Sockeye Alehouse will span over 12,000 sq/ft and feature a full-service restaurant, a location-specific menu, and the addition of a golf-themed bar with a custom year-round, indoor 9-hole putting course.

"We've worked with the award-winning design company, PuttTek, to design and engineer a 9-hole indoor putting course that will not only keep true golfers in mind, but remain fun and family friendly," said Tyson Cardon, Sockeye's Director of Marketing. "The golf bar will feature it's own 'small-bites' menu and be a fun and unique addition to this beautiful space."

95 2C Family Brewing - Nampa

Alvin Mullin's 2CFamily Brewing in Nampa, Idaho, closed it's doors on last time on April 1, 2023.  I will miss them.  They were one  of my Go-To  places conveniently located just across the street from PreFunk!  This brewery was one of my hang outs (only 11 miles from my  house).  We had great times visiting the brewers Daniel and Tyler.

The Chart below shows the Rapid Growth of the number of Idaho breweries since 1984.  It took Idaho 23 years to go from 1 brewery in 1984 to 17 breweries in 2007.   It took Idaho 15 years to add 76 breweries.  Idaho went from 17 breweries in 2007 to 93 breweries by the end  of 2022.

How many breweries are in the State of Idaho?

My List of  Idaho Breweries currently lists 94 Active Breweries plus 2 future breweries that already have their Idaho ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) licenses.  But the official ABC list shows 103 Idaho licensed breweries. Why the difference?  The ABC list includes all the breweries with a current ABC license which includes breweries that hold a license, but have yet to brew.  Also, some breweries have several retail locations and/or production locations that require a second license.
