IDAHO BREWERIES: A LOOK BACK AT 2022 AND A LOOK FORWARD TO 2023

 By Bob Hubler

In 1888, there were 33 different Breweries in the State of Idaho....that is the most breweries that were open in the state at one time prior to prohibition.

Although National Prohibition Started in 1919, Idaho started their own state wide prohibition in 1916....so there were no breweries in Idaho from 1916 to 1934.
A few breweries came back in Idaho after 1934 when prohibition was lifted, but by 1961, they were all gone....the last one to close was the Bohemian Brewery in Boise.

Idaho was without any Breweries until Tim Batt started the first modern brewery in 1984.  He called it Snake River Brewing.
Idaho had more than 33 breweries for the first time in history in 2014.  Eleven new breweries opened in 2014 bringing the total of Active Idaho Breweries to 41.

Idaho entered 2022 with 85 Active Breweries.  During 2022 Idaho added 10 new breweries but lost 3 breweries bringing the total of Active Breweries to 92.  At least 5 more breweries planned to open in 2023 bringing the total  of Idaho breweries to 97.

Idaho edges closer to 100 active breweries.

The following story is from the New Colony Beer Co. Facebook page:

MEET THE OWNERS 🍻

On April 22, 2022, we ventured out to create a “new colony” of beer lovers.

(From right to left: Tom, Trina, Dallas, Carson, and Ellie)

With years of combined business experience and maybe even more combined years of making (and enjoying) delicious craft beer, we are here to add to the already amazing beer scene in Boise, Idaho.

Over the last 7 months since taking over Craft Brewers of Boise we have been so fortunate to create new beer, new friends, and new events…but we believe it’s time for us to make this place our own…

Through inspiration from the one-of-a-kind project done by Idaho Fish and Game in 1948, a new brand has been created.

Introducing….

New Colony Beer Company

We’ll have some of our on-site brewed beer, some of your local and far favorites, and plenty of beer in the cooler for you to enjoy on premises, or to-go.

Simply, we’re a beer company.

But don’t worry, food is in the future too…

If you want to learn more about some of the new stuff happening, or just get to know our story a little bit more, come on down and have a pint with us during one of our many weekly events.
